Did you know that humans have two different ages?  How old you are is your chronological age, which is the number of years you have been alive.  The age you should care about is your biological age, which indicates how old your body is, and how old you may seem.

    Description

Your biological age takes many lifestyle factors into consideration, including diet, exercise, stress, diseases, and sleeping habits, to name a few. Research suggests that telomeres play big parts in the biological aging process, and scientists have discovered that the higher a person’s chronological age, the shorter their telomeres. Therefore, telomeres are a way to quantify cellular aging. With our BodyK Concierge Service, you can schedule your appointment to do your Telomere test from the comfort of your own home.

    What are Telomeres?

Telomeres are the nucleotides on the ends of chromosomes. They keep the ends of chromosomes from deteriorating and fusing with a nearby chromosome.

Telomeres are shortened as we age, but telomeres can also be shortened by stress, smoking, obesity, lack of exercise, and a poor diet. Eventually, telomeres get too short to do their job, causing our cells to age and stop functioning properly. Research also links short telomeres to almost ALL the chronic diseases of aging. Therefore, telomeres act as the aging clock in every cell, they dictate how quickly cells age and die.

What are the benefits of testing your Telomeres?

Understanding your ability to influence telomeres length, and knowing your cellular age could be a wake-up call to change behaviors associated with telomere shortening. You could eat a healthier diet, lose weight, stop smoking, or reduce stress.

How can I know how fast my Telomeres are shortening?

You can do a baseline Telomere test that is followed up over time with another test in 6 months.  Doing a follow-up test will tell how fast over a period of time the telomeres are shortening.  This will help you evaluate your lifestyle and make the necessary changes to help your body increase telomerase, the enzyme that makes telomeres larger.

What can I expect the day of the test?

A member of our medical team will take a sample of blood by inserting a needle into a vein in your arm, usually at the bend in your elbow. The blood sample will be sent to one of our partner labs for analysis. You will be able to return to your usual activities immediately.

What do the Telomeres results tell me about my health?

    Follow-up Telomere test results
Repeated telomere testing is particularly useful the older we get. A dramatic change in a short time (6 to 12 months) warrants a closer look.ion rate is profoundly affected by nutrient deficiencies.

    Initial baseline test
Telomere score is good: Use results as a baseline to monitor yearly. Keep doing what you’re doing, in general

Telomere score is bad: You must review your lifestyle and modify any factors that may be causing a faster shortening of your telomeres. Also, don’t underestimate the power of stress on cellular health, and nutrient deficiencies. BodyK offers a Micronutrient Panel that can be combined with Telomere testing, as Telomere attrition rate is profoundly affected by nutrient deficiencies.

When can I expect my results?

Your results will be ready in 5 to 7 days.  The results will be sent to you via an encrypted email.

It was incredible to find out that my cells were younger in age than my body. The BodyK nurse was amazing and explained in detail what I should expect. I have since created a plan to improve my wellness inside and out.
